2009

"Total command of winemaking" are the words that Robert Mondavi used to describe Georg Stiegelmar as he awarded him the "Robert Mondavi Winemaker of the Year" trophy in 1995 in London. He described a vintner that felt comfortable with every wine style as had been confirmed by many other awards.
Meanwhile son Axel now uses his international experience as director of the family winery. To differentiate them from other vintners of the same name in Gols, Juris has been written in blue on all of the winery's labels. There are two ranges of wines. "Selection" represents wines that express primary fruit character and traditional vinification in large oak cask or stainless steel. The "Reserve" wines mature at least 18 months in new oak barrels and have sent more than one wine critic into raptures.
Axel Stiegelmar confirmed the qualitative possibilities of the variety St. Laurent as Falstaff champion in 1998. The winery is also renowned for its Pinot Noir and is considered one of the best red wine producers in Austria. Because Axel Stiegelmar is a proponent not only for barrel maturation, but also bottle aging, the reserve wines are released an additional year later.
