When Axel and Herta Stieglmar took over the family’s JURIS Estate in 1995, they were honoured to be able to continue a tradition that began in 1571. Although one can speak of established tradition, this is also both an obligation of honour and inspiration for the future. This estate in which wine is created is the unification of old and new, of tradition and vision.

After completing vinicultural college in Klosterneuburg, Axel gained experience by working at elite international wineries such as Château Canon la Gaffeliere in Bordeaux and Opus One in Napa Valley. The goal was to eventually follow in the footsteps of his father Georg Stiegelmar, one of the pioneers that established the reputation of the region in the 1980s and 1990s through numerous innovations and achievements. Axel took the reigns of the estate in 2000.

JURIS was dedicated to the Burgundian varieties Pinot noir ad St. Laurent from the very beginning. Hand selected estate clones with small berries and the best rootstocks serve as a solid foundation. The wines of the Reserve series are sourced from old vines and are regular champions of the most prestigious wine competitions. The blends St. Georg, Ina’mera and Tricata are prime examples of the possibilities that are found in the warm Pannonian climate of the region. Wines are vinified in a state-of-the-art facility. Gravity is used to move the wines and only passive energy is needed to temper and circulate air in the storage and maturation area. All of these efforts have lead to numerous accolades throughout the years. “Winemaker of the Year 1995” in London and three-time Falstaff Champion are just a few of the acknowledgements.
