Axel Stiegelmar has resisted the trend in Austria towards simplifying his wine assortment. “Everyone can find a favourite wine to suit their tastes at JURIS;” states Herta Stiegelmar and continues, “we are quite happy to have such a versatile assortment of wines.” They have created two distinct wine ranges that are easy to understand: “Selection” is the series that is vinified in neutral vessels while “Reserve” denotes wines that are vinified with new oak and are sourced from vines that are a minimum of 15-years-old. The Stiegelmars are considered specialists for finicky grape varieties like St. Laurent and Pinot noir. This reputation is easy to follow by tasting the Pinot Noir Haide, St. Laurent Reserve and the blend St. Georg (all currently from the 2007 vintage). New among the white wines is a dry Gewürztraminer. The volumes are small since it is the first yield. The resulting wine has the fragrance of an English rose garden and joins the Sauvignon Blanc Selection 2009 and the Chardonnay Altenberg 2009 as exemplary white wines.
